What It Is
Lean body mass is not your ideal weight or what your body is like if you are “lean.” Lean body mass indicates the nonfat parts of your body.
Body weight consists of:
- Lean, metabolically active body mass such as bone, muscle, organ tissue, blood, and water
- Body fat (adipose tissue), which is not metabolically active
If you weigh 130 pounds and you have 10% body fat, your lean body mass is 90%. This means that your body consists of 13 pounds of fat and 117 pounds of lean body mass.
